GTO & GTX
$29

GTO and GTX are a pair of vintage style 'character' compressors, designed like their muscle car name-sakes for brute power, pure speed and to make a loud noise. They have everything youd expect in a thorough-bred compressor, but are tuned for maximum control and ease of use, each with their own unique vintage colouring on top.
GTO is a peak compressor, designed for raw power and lightning response. GTX has a smoother RMS delivery with further refinement in the shape of a knee control. They both feature super-fast attack and release times and have a wide range of threshold, ratio and output boost, so they can cover everything from subtle correction to death-by-compression, with everything in between. With an external sidechain, wet/dry mix for NY compression and a hard limiter too, you can really push these babies to get pumping bass and block-rockin beats. The metering covers input, output and gain reduction, showing real-time and peak levels.
Revision C updates the compressors to SE 1.1 which eliminates any possibility of a bug with multiple instances on multi-core processors
Revision B upgraded features, such as release curve shaping, dynamic noise modelling and peak meter hold time. Click here to see more details on the differences
features
Vintage style Peak and RMS compressors with external sidechain, parallel compression and comprehensive metering
Subtle colouring from a home-made blend of harmonics, saturation and dynamic noise [updated in rev. B]
Updated to SE 1.1
Ultra-fast attack and release times
Wet/Dry mix control allows phase-free blending of dry uncompressed signal for NY style parallel compression
RMS window can be set for smooth cruising or sharp response [GTX only]
Knee amount can be changed from gentle curve to sharp edge [GTX only]
Choice of 2 attack/release curves [rev. B]
Stereo input detection can be linked or unlinked
Distortion reduction for very short release times
Internal or external sidechain routing
Additional 'Internal sidechain only' versions [rev. B]
Optional hard limiting on final output
Metering covers stereo input, output and gain reduction. All meters show actual and peak levels
Adjustable peak meter hold time [rev. B]
Non-linear knobs for precise control at small values
Presets covering all functions and different configurations
The curent full versions of GTO, GTX, GTS & GTA are rev. C, which updates the compressors to SE 1.1, eliminating any possibility of a bug with multiple instances on multi-core processors

rev. B brought the following changes from the original releases;
Added option to chose from 2 attack/release curves with the SHAPE toggle
Added peak meter hold time control, using the screw on the meter to adjust sensitivity
Noise level is now dynamic to output level plus random element, was previously static
Added a ground loop to remove the 60Hz mains hum ;)
Fixed bug where zero release time would disable the sidechain
Internal sidechain only versions for hosts that don't allow multi-input plugins
Meter selection isn't now saved with preset
GTX is a less intense shade of blue

The download includes both GTO and GTX with full manuals and additional 'Internal sidechain only' versions for hosts that are not compatible with multi-input plugins
GTO & GTX are also available in a bundle deal with QB-3 for $41 saving $12 on the individual prices, plus GTS & GTA extra for free and unavailable separately.
demo VST

Download demo VST (19 MB) - This zip contains the demo versions of both GTO and GTX to allow you to fully evaluate them before purchasing. They are very slighty feature limited, but differently so that between them you can test all functions
- GTO has no external sidechain
- GTX has no Wet/Dry knob
- Both GTO and GTX demo versions have 1 second of silence every 20 seconds.
Manuals are also included with the demos
Audio demo files
The demo VSTs are the best way to test the capabilities of GTO and GTX, however below are some audio demos to give you a taste of what they can do
The audio demos are purely GTO or GTX, no other effects or processing are used. Each demo starts with the dry audio first, followed by the same audio processed by GTO or GTX. Peak levels are matched in both dry and processed parts, so the difference you hear is the compression effect, not "louder is better"

Vintage Character
You might be asking what is the vintage mojo character colouring thing? Well, it's subtle but audible in the audio demos and the VST demos, but here is a visual representation to show you what happens to a 500Hz sine wave. Harmonics, noise, EQ, saturation and magic mojo!
Preset tweaking
The presets demonstrate the range of GTO and GTX, from subtle to extreme. These presets can sound totally different depending on the source material and may not compress enough or could clip/distort depending on the level of the material that you try it on. The compressor settings will almost always need to be adjusted to the volume and dynamic range of the audio you are running through it. So the presets are a demonstration and a starting point, but you should expect to tweak each one a little if you want to get the best out of GTO and GTX.
Host Compatibility
GTO and GTX have been tested and work in Cubase 4.5.2, Sonar 8.5 LE, Ableton Live Lite 8.1.3, FL Studio 9.1, Reaper 3.6, Renoise 2.5, energyXT 2.5.2, energyXT 1.4 and Podium 2.30
You should however always test the demo versions in your choice of hosts/system before purchase
energy XT2 users
If you use energy XT2 as your host, you may want to also download the free Stereo to Dual Mono plugin
As the standard 'external sidechain' versions of GTO / GTX have dual mono inputs in eXT2, then this free plugin will convert any stereo signal into dual mono pins for input to GTO / GTX. You do not need this converter for the 'internal sidechain only' versions, as they have a single stereo input
credits
A big thanks to Jonathan Styles at SUKaudio, for the brilliant toggle graphic used on the GUI
Many thanks too to TheOrphan, K-Slash and thecontrolcentre for giving permission to use their loops for the audio examples
Thanks for the 3rd party modules from Chris Kerry, Dave Haupt, Kelly Lynch, Daz Disley, Christian Budde and Scoofster
Also a huge thanks to g200kg for the fantastic freeware knobman, used to make the controls on most of my GUIs
GTS & GTA are currently only available in the Vintage colour bundle
GTA is a stripped-down, hot-rodded, limited edition version of GTO, with less features but more flavour. GTS is a souped-up, tricked out version that combines GTO and GTX plus adds a 'MOJO' control so you can add even more special sauce or back it off a bit too
